Years ago kids didn't have adhd and no one knows what is causing so many cases in young children and teens. It's not your parents fault. He was born with it. My neighbor is 10 years old and has severe adhd and bipolar disorder. I spend time with him every day, so I know what you are going through. He is having to change schools tomorrow because his conduct is unacceptable to humans. If he doesn't make it in this new school, his parents are sending him away to a military type school. They will have no choice. He is definitely out of control and will hurt himself or others. Medication doesn't help at all, but he still takes it. He screams and sobs like a 2 year old. His mother still has to dress him for school in the morning. He can't read or write.

One research study I read about said infant immunizations may be the cause.

I think teens with severe adhd who disrupt normal family life should be sent off to a special school where they can live with professionals, and their family can get on with their lives without them. Visitation is usually very limited at first, and then about once every two weeks. There should be special adhd homes to battle with these kids so our homes don't become battlegrounds. Good luck to you!
References :
ADHD is genetic, and has nothing to do with parenting (though parents who don't understand ADHD and don't know how to help their kids can defiantly make it worse because they don't give the child the skills to manage it).

Other than marrying someone who does not have ADHD, you can't do much to prevent it in your kids, but ADHD kids who get the right help and the correct environment can be the most successful. They think outside the box, are creative, and are usually of very high intelligence. Mozart is believed to have had ADHD, for example.
