Are ADHD drugs such as ritalin and adderall prescribed by doctors (general physicians) or psychiatrists?
08 Oct 2008
Yes. A doctor can prescribe any drug, whether he is a general physician or a psychiatrist.
Basically, your general physician will prescribe such drugs unless he feels you should be seen by someone with more expertise than himself.

2006 Nov 01 8both. if you're not comfortable going to a psychiatrist then talk to your doctor. I personally get my prescription from my doctor but that's only because the psychiatrists office is in a very public place and around here people treat you different if they know you have a problem….it's sucky but that's the way it is.
