From my understanding ADD/ADHD people need some medications to stimulate them. I would like to know if there are natural alternatives. No coffee… Just natural remedies.

There is a lot of new evidence to suggust that diet and exercise have a lot of effect on ADD/ADHD. Specifically limiting carbohydrates and sugar. Eating organic, perservatives have really done terrible things to us in the last 50 years. Getting proper exercise. Normal bedtimes. Getting all your omega 3, 6, and 9 are good for your brain. I like to do concentration exercises like jigsaw puzzles or math problems. Math really helps me focus. Reading is good to and NOT watching TV. TV may be responsible for a lot of ADD/ADHD behaviour. Ritalin scares me. My aunt and uncles foster child has to talk it and she just hates it. It makes her feel like a zombee.

2006 Nov 22 2My niece has ADD and my sister-in-law gives her Advocare Spark Energy drink. My sister-in-law is a NICU nurse and says the caffine used in Spark is pharmacutical grade the same used in the NICU. It is very effective and allows her to focus. She has used it for 5 years now. I've seen it for sale on ebay. Good luck!

2006 Nov 22 3I question the medical community's insistence on medication to treat conditions that have existed for generations and have been treated without drugs.
Studies in the US and England have shown a possible link between diet and ADD in children. Specifically, reducing white sugar (of all kinds, such as in sodas, ice cream, ketchup, and many packaged foods), white salt, wheat, and dairy has had some encouraging results in reducing ADD in pre-teens.

2006 Nov 22 4reduce any processed food, sugars (sodas etc.) ADD/ADHD do not need stimulation as they are already in overdrive. Look into Sensory Integration techniques by Jane Ayres…deep pressure, massage, swinging, things that will regulate the way your body processes sensory stimulation thus allowing you to focus. I have also found that writing things that are in my head, crazy or not, help me to get it out of my head and organize thoughts so that I can focus on what is at hand.
