Help…..6 yr. old daughter with ADHD…..?
12 Oct 2008
Please…….I need help….. I have a 6 yr. old daughter with ADHD and she is on Adderall XR 10mg and I want her off of medications. Does anyone have an all natural remedy that works like medication without the drugs. Or does anyone know any good websites that I can research on my own. I have checked into kids health and I am currently registered with the adderall news so I can stay updated and help my child the best I can . I love my daughter and my husband and I do not want her to stay in medication any longer than neccessary. Please only serious answers and help. I am a very concerned mother and would like to help my child as best as possible. Thank You to everyone in advance for all of your help.
I can relate. My daughter is 9 yro and ADHD (we have known since she was 6). I tried everything but medications. Nothing worked other than cutting ANY sugar whatsoever out of her diet and that only helped a little. Her 1st grade teacher (who also happens to be an old, family friend that I have the highest respect for), finally told us it was effecting her education. She has been on Concerta ever since (we tried 3 kinds before settling with Concerta). She is an all A student and received an excellent manners and behavior award at the end of 3rd grade this year. Sometimes what is best for our kids is a hard decision to make but in this case, medication was the only solution for us. No different than if she had to take insulin everyday so don't beat yourself up!
In the Summer months I take her off the medication. As someone else said, if she is hyper and not as focused, oh well. It's Summer and time for kids to be kids!
Best wishes!

2007 Jun 21 2If the doctor told you she has ADHD, dont listen. Its a scam. She is a kid, kids are hyper. Some have ADD but that is because maybe in school they find it boring. Not all subjects can be fun. But lay off the sugars, and cut down on soda and snacks. take her for a walk with you around the block or something to get her tired out so she wont be as hyper. Hope this helps.(by the way, i am "diagnosed" with add, i dont have it, im just lazy and dont pay attaention. Its basically the same as adhd haha)

2007 Jun 21 5Both of my kids were diagnose with ADD, however they both were taking adderall. My oldest (12 at that time - now 15) was in 10mg and the youngest in 5mg, however my oldest had a hard time sleeping so the doctor prescribe sleeping pills!! My youngest (9 at that time - now 13) had to take one in the morning and one around lunch time. I did notice some changes but out of the blue they decide not to take the blue pills anymore! well I did panic however, we learn how to help them concentrate in their homework and other things. Talk to the school teachers and they will help you out in teaching you how to help them, remember its all about repeat and discipline, also if you have a chance call kaiser or your local hospital and ask them if they have some kind of classes to teach you in helping the kids with adhd, they will teach you also about their diet and how to deal with adhd and how to get your kid's attention. Get your daughter involve in some kind of sports or dancing! or something that she likes to do and also its going to help her concentrate better. Both of my kids are NOT! taking adderall anylonger and they are both ok!

2007 Jun 21 7If your doctor prescribed a medication for your daughter why would you think she should not be taking it. I hear alot of nonsense about taking children off their meds. because they don't like the thought of them taking them. But if you child was diagnosed with a liver disorder and ordered to take meds. everyday to function properly would it be okay to take it away? No! This is no different. A child taking medication for adhd or add functions more efficiently and is more able to control their minds and bodies because of the meds. Taking them away is like forcing the child to retrain a part of their brain that is chemically unbalanced as it is. I agree that too many children are incorrectly being diagnosed as an easy fix, but if it is true than they need their medications. I also agree that child should be hyper and active, but not all children are this way and not all children want to be so when the mind has no control over this section they become overactive without wanting to be and it can be extremely frustrating for the child.
