Dr. John Breeding Ph.D. Psychologist reviews the book “Medication Madness: A Psychiatrist Exposes the Dangers of Mood-Altering Medications” by Dr. Peter Breggin.

Medications for everything from depression and anxiety to ADHD and insomnia are being prescribed in alarming numbers across the country, but the cure is often worse than the original problem. Medication Madness is a fascinating, frightening, and dramatic look at the role that psychiatric medications have played in fifty cases of suicide, murder, and other violent, criminal, and bizarre behaviors.

As a psychiatrist who believes in holding people responsible for their conduct, the weight of scientific evidence and years of clinical experience eventually convinced Dr. Breggin that psychiatric drugs frequently cause individuals to lose their judgment and their ability to control their emotions and actions. Medication Madness raises and examines the issues surrounding personal responsibility when behavior seems driven by drug-induced adverse reactions and intoxication.

Dr. Breggin personally evaluated the cases in the book in his role as a treating psychiatrist, consultant or medical expert. He interviewed survivors and witnesses, and reviewed extensive medical, occupational, educational and police records. The great majority of individuals lived exemplary lives and committed no criminal or bizarre actions prior to taking the psychiatric medications.

Medication Madness reads like a medical thriller, true crime story, and courtroom drama; but it is firmly based in the latest scientific research and dozens of case studies. The lives of the children and adults in these stories, as well as the lives of their families and their victims, were thrown into turmoil and sometimes destroyed by the unanticipated effects of psychiatric drugs. In some cases our entire society was transformed by the tragic outcomes.

Many categories of psychiatric drugs can cause potentially horrendous reactions.

Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, Xanax, lithium, Zyprexa and other psychiatric medications may spellbind patients into believing they are improved when too often they are becoming worse. Psychiatric drugs drive some people into psychosis, mania, depression, suicide, agitation, compulsive violence and loss of self-control without the individuals realizing that their medications have deformed their way of thinking and feeling.

This book documents how the FDA, the medical establishment and the pharmaceutical industry have over-sold the value of psychiatric drugs. It serves as a cautionary tale about our reliance on potentially dangerous psychoactive chemicals to relieve our emotional problems and provides a positive approach to taking personal charge of our lives.

    ok if you’re going …
ok if you’re going to argue semantics…i a partial chemist, not qualified but i know what i say when i say there is ionic fluoride (like that put in the water) and there is covalent fluoride (like that which makes up organic compounds). There is also elemental fluoride, but thats neither natural nor useful

while they are the same nucleus they are in very different situations. Yeah I’m sure fluoride salts are psychoactive, but that psycho activity need not be reflected in the covalent forms

“I was told of this …
“I was told of this entire scheme by a German chemist who was an official of the great IG Farben industries and was also prominent in the Nazi movement at the time. I say this with all the earnestness and sincerity of a scientist who has spent nearly 20 years research into the chemistry, biochemistry, physiology and pathology of fluorine–any person who drinks artificially fluorinated water for a period of one year or more will never again be the same person mentally or physically.”

    “When the Nazis …
“When the Nazis under Hitler decided to go into Poland, both the German General Staff and the Russian General Staff exchanged scientific and military ideas, plans, and personnel, and the scheme of mass control through water medication was seized upon by the Russian Communists because it fitted ideally into their plan to communize the world. … “

    First of all, …
First of all, fluorine is elemental. Not fluoride. I don’t care to argue the chemistry with you though, because I am not a chemist, and neither are you if you don’t know the difference. What I do have is historical documentation and quotes from nazis that they were using massive doses of FLUORIDE in WATER to drug people……

    theorganichispanic;

the main ingrediant in fluox is carbon and hydrogen…and to be exact, the main properties of fluox comes from its structure, the functional groups (CF3 Trifluromethane) add to it they don’t create it

    that is elemental/ …
that is elemental/ionic flouride (what the nazis use, whats in the water) versus covalent fluoride (whats in prozac…but NOT other SSRI’s). It’s almost like saying that my protein bar has all the components of cyanide therefore the companies are trying to kill the strong

    I’ve been tapering …
I’ve been tapering myself off zyprexa for about 6 months now. Was taking half a 10mg tablet most of that time (which I understand is equivilent to 3mg (60% of 5mg)

I am sleeping, although have a very cracked out feeling…go through periods of lethargy and hyperactivity…lots of teeth grinding. Not sure what to do at the moment, any suggestions to alleviate withdrawal would be great :)

    Logically you …
Logically you should avoid taking drugs.

Logically, if they gave them in return of money (be it state money or whatever), well its a product, medically worse in fact than speed or marijuana.

But hey if you choose to not fix up your life, face your fears and clean your up and instead rely on a magic pill.

Well maybe you deserve the you’re burning in right now, no ?

Yeah I pity you, I can hand you a loonie while passing by but but you’re still the one burning anyway.

    I recently ran out …
I recently ran out of Zyprexa and a lapse in my medical coverage meant I was without it for 9 days. Those are some of the worst 9 days of my life. I was physically ill and suffered horrible bouts of anxiety and depression. I was literally taken to my lowest level since my divorce and would say possibly even lower. Imagine a full grown man brought to tears from intense anxiety and you’ve just imagined my experience. Within 2 days of being back on the zyprexa my symptoms were much alleviated. wtf?

Most or all of the …
Most or all of the people that were being experimented on in the concentration camps died. However, I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about Viktor Frankl and his encounter with those who did not have medicine available to them.

    Actually, the nazis …
Actually, the nazis were experimenting on victims with extremely high doses of fluoride. Fluoride is the main ingredient of Prozac, chemically named Fluoxetine. It is my belief that the original sedative effects of SSRIs were discovered here.

another good video from john breeding. he’s got some good things to say about the pratfalls and obvious dangers of psych meds as well as the withdrawl that occurs once one abates their use of said drugs. obviously he’s done his research. real mellow dude, always has a few words of wisdom.

    I’m not sure what …
I’m not sure what Breeding’s alternatives to meds are, but you might want to google or read the book man’s search for meaning. The book is about how people were able to cope in concentration camps during ww2. It’s a bit intense, but if you look at the circumstances people went through in those camps they didn’t have access to antidepressants or anything like that.
