2008 Sep 02 3Think of all the …
Think of all the unforgiven? Okay, that makes me think of everyone. I realize that we’re making progress in some areas, but not in the areas that matter most. I don’t think that having a “psychiatric disorder” is any better than being “stupid.” It’s no less stigmatizing. People who are different are still considered inferior.

2008 Sep 02 4That is hard …
That is hard because there is not a lot known about the academics of most historical figures. But for every historical figure who has excelled, think of all the unforgiven who have suffered over the years because of their difficulties. At least now society can recognize that some people just think differently instead of labelling them as stupid or lazy.

Those who are different are those who change things. People (in the real world, not on YouTube) respect me for being different and obviously proud of it. In fact, I didn’t get respect from people when I was on my medication, trying to be like everyone else. I was only respected when I became a free spirit and expressed my disapproval of the status quo. Can you name a historical figure from more than a century ago who would not be diagnosed with a learning disability today?

Unfortunately to get by in the world you have to play by the standards of others. It would be great to live in a world where I could just work according to my own standards but that kind of world is not here yet.

Shawandrew, the reason you’re not successful without drugs isn’t that you have a deficiency, but because you’re trying to be successful in someone else’s standards, instead of ones that make sense for you. Btw, how much medication have you used in your life?

2008 Sep 02 8I have ADD myself …
I have ADD myself so don’t say I don’t know what I’m talking about. Because I am an adult and had some other things I can’t get stimulants. Yes the purpose of medication is to alter the mind in order to be able to lead a happier life. I would rather be successful with the help of drugs than be something like a janitor who is drug free.

2008 Sep 02 9Shawandrew, I have …
Shawandrew, I have ADD. I know what I’m talking about. I don’t think you have any idea how much stigma we face for that. Oh, and saying that insulin produces psychological effects in its user is null and void, for without the insulin, these people can DIE. Ritalin will not prevent a person from DYING. The ONLY purpose of ADD medication is to alter the mind of someone who is merely DIFFERENT. And yes, this does make children feel inferior. It also makes their peers look down on them.

2008 Sep 02 10Actually without …
Actually without insulin diabetics will notice psychological changes, that sort of thing is affected by blood sugar levels. People with ADD don’t think less of themselves unless they are told that using medications is somehow dishonest.

No, but that athlete doesn’t think less of themselves for having to use insulin. Also, insulin doesn’t change who they are. Psych meds do.

We would not accuse an athlete who is diabetic of not achieving their athletic goals on their own because they had help from insulin.

Well, Sarah, you’re much better off than I was. Still, it’s a shame that your God-given personality cannot be accommodated by your school. Romans 12:2 “Conform no longer to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Ah, Catholic school. I think that’s even worse than public school. You are only 13 years old so I understand if you’re naive about these things right now. You don’t have to stay that way, though.

2008 Sep 02 17And yet the meds do …
And yet the meds do not make you any better at analyzing what you read. I said that PUBLIC SCHOOLS are BULLSHIT. I can be more specific about what that “bullshit” entails if you’d like but my main point is that school isn’t relevant to the real world. I know that meds can help you at school. they did that for me for a couple years but don’t know how those drugs are affecting you. They’re changing you slowly and when you finally realize this, you will have a of a time adjusting. 7yrs

2008 Sep 02 2080% of patients on …
80% of patients on medication show significant improvement? Improvement in what? Are you referring to government sponsored bullshit like public schools? Now there’s something to be proud of. *sarcasm* But, wait! Doesn’t pride comes from accomplishments that a person achieves themselves, not on a drug that replaces their identity?
If you think they don’t replace your identity, then try them for seven years and tell me I’m wrong.

2008 Sep 02 21Fuck you. I took …
you. I took your bullshit for seven years. I don’t need any godforsaken medication.
“There’s no cure for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.”
Again, YOU. There’s nothing wrong with people like us. It’s society that’s screwed up and we’re just victims of it. Instead of taking a pill, I’m going to do some Karate tonight.
THOSE DRUGS ARE POISON. Read some Peter Breggin.
