What is the difference between Adderall and Strattera when treating ADHD? Is one proven to work better?
04 Sep 2008
Adderall is an amphetamine. Anyone taking it will feel more alert. Psychiatrists do prescribe it but usually only after someone has taken a test like the TOVA that is clinically proven to show ADHD ( cant cheat on that one). For whatever reason people with true add or adhd find that they feel normal on it.
Straterra works on a different neurotransmitter (non-addicting) and I have seen it work fabulously with several people who were worried about taking an addicting drug.
My friend told me that she no longer obsesses about everything and can focus at work and has stopped trying to do 7 things at once. Both have side-effects so ask your doctor or better look it up at webmd before you take either one
Good Luck.

2007 Apr 22 2They are completely different.
Adderall is an amphetamine and a controlled drug. If you have ever taken a diet pill, it works like that.

Strattera is a non-amphetamine (non-controlled drug) that works on the brain somewhat like an antidepressant does.

You can get a prescription for Strattera a lot easier than Adderall. Adderall is a "street drug" and many doctors won't write prescriptions for it.

2007 Apr 22 3Since you have obviously made up your mind that medication is the only way for you… or whoever you are concerned with?
Here you go… Read up and good luck to you in the future.
You're going to need it as you can't take these medications forever… Eventually you are going to have to actually deal with yourself without them…
Personally.. I believe there is a vital lack of study subjects who are adults that are still on these drugs and or those who can no longer take them and how they are relating to and dealing with life as a result.
Personally… I would seek alternative methods and means of therapy and cognizant behavior re-modification.

2007 Apr 22 5A comparision was done with Adderall XR and Strattera in children 6 - 12 yrs old with ADHD in a randomized, double-blind, multicenter, parallel-group, forced-dose escalation laboratory school study. Patient inprovement was greater in the Adderall group (-0.56 vs. -0.13) Adverse events were similar for both treatment groups. This suggests that Adderall XR is more effective than Strattera in children with ADHD
